Volunteer
Rancho de los Animales for the Disabled is 100% volunteer-based. No one receives a salary. Our volunteers are our greatest resource. Many people volunteer in exchange for horseback riding while others enjoy spending time on a working horse ranch.
Our volunteers assist in feeding the animals, grooming and exercising the horses, and helping out on Saturday riding in the arena. They also assist in maintaining the property by completing other ranch-related tasks.
Anyone wanting to work with our horses doesn’t need prior experience, just a love of horses and the desire to learn. Safety for you and the horse is most important. You will receive hands-on training from Beth herself who will teach you ground work. Suzanne will then teach you proper horsemanship. These valuable lessons are FREE to our volunteers.
The Rancho is a popular source for high students needing to fulfill community service requirements. Many will end their time at the Rancho with a smiling thank-you to Beth and Suzanne for how much they enjoyed themselves. It is also a popular source for court-ordered community service.
There is always a need for more volunteers. If you are interested, please contact Beth (805-459-9083) to arrange a visit.
Please print and fill out the Liability Waiver before your visit. The form is available in English and Spanish.
Community Service
Middle school and high school students are encouraged to choose Rancho de los Animales for their mandatory community service hours. Here they will find projects ranging from working in the gardens to assisting with maintaining our thriving horse ranch. Many of our community service volunteers thank us for the wonderful experience they had volunteering at the Rancho.
Students who cannot find a placement anywhere else are welcome at Rancho de los Animales. We also accept the volunteers from court ordered community service programs.
